Skulls and pastel tones, structured shapes and decorative zips – few brands offer such a unique mix as Zadig & Voltaire. The Parisian label is renowned for its successful fusion of rock 'n' roll and understated elegance. Each Zadig & Voltaire bag exudes effortless luxury with a strong character. The brand’s French designs come with a rebellious twist, often featuring studs, chain details, quilting and embossed textures. One of the most recognisable elements is the pair of angel wings, used as a logo and featured on most Zadig & Voltaire bags. The brand breaks away from the classic Parisienne aesthetic, merging coveted Parisian chic with a rebellious glam rock edge – très génial!
Founded in 1997 by Thierry Gillier, Zadig & Voltaire has embraced a bold blend of materials and styles from the outset. The brand’s name reflects its philosophy and is inspired by the novella *Zadig or The Book of Fate* by French writer Voltaire. In the story, the main character embarks on various adventures guided by a cherub – a winged angel – which is echoed in the brand’s iconic winged logo. Whether it’s the Candide bag or another design, all Zadig & Voltaire bags share the same rebellious flair and superior craftsmanship. Living up to the motto *This is Zadig, this is Rock!*, the brand’s bags and accessories make a bold statement through striking contrasts and strong identity. In addition to its women’s range, Zadig & Voltaire also offers men’s designs, including backpacks, weekenders and belt bags.
Zadig & Voltaire bags: everyday companions with an edge
This French label offers something for every need – from belt bags and handbags to large shoppers. The brand’s core range, however, centres around shoulder bags, available in all shapes and sizes – with flap or fold-over designs, chain or fabric straps. Most Zadig & Voltaire bags are made from leather, including cowhide, goatskin or lambskin. Popular styles also include interesting leather combinations, such as embossed and suede finishes. The Monogram collection stands out with an all-over logo pattern and a leather-polyester mix for an original look. The colour palette is equally diverse: alongside edgy black designs, you’ll also find bold shades and evening bags with trendy metallic shimmer.
The rectangular Zadig & Voltaire bag with winged side panels – known as the Candide bag – has achieved cult status. It’s easy to recognise by its shape and distinctive front pocket with an external zip compartment. This pocket features a two-way zip with long pulls, reinforcing the bag’s rock vibe. The Candide comes in three sizes and can be carried by hand, over the shoulder or crossbody. Made from premium leather, it is available with a smooth or suede finish. Each Candide is crafted with great attention to detail – even the smallest version includes metal feet and a padded shoulder strap. All models also feature a decorative padlock and detachable charm.
